In partnership with the Asbestos Diseases Foundation of Australia, MACROC will host an Asbestos Information Evening on Wednesday 14 September 2011 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the Campbelltown City Council Civic Hall, Queen Street, Campbelltown.

The evening is designed to provide information about asbestos and asbestos related diseases, as well as the steps you need to take if you discover asbestos when renovating your house. Presenters will include Professor Nico van Zandwijk, Director of the Asbestos Disease Research Institute, Judy Horobin, Partner with Turner Freeman Lawyers and Barry Robson, President of the Asbestos Diseases Foundation of Australia.

The evening is a must for people who want to learn more about asbestos related diseases, new breakthroughs in treatment and how to avoid putting yourself and those around you at risk.

MACROC President, Cr Benn Banasik encourages people to attend the evening. “It was not until the mid 1970’s that the general public became aware of the dangers of asbestos. Home renovators are particularly at risk if they are or have been exposed to asbestos during home renovations. It is important that we all understand the dangers of asbestos and what steps we can take to reduce the number of people exposed to asbestos and prevent future asbestos related diseases,” said Cr Banasik.
“This seminar will be of particular interest to residents in Macarthur as there are a large number of dwellings containing asbestos material in the region. Be wary if your house does contain asbestos as it does present a health risk if the material is disturbed.”

This event is free and a light supper will be served.
