Manufacturer and Engineer
Peter Gilbert was born in 1954. He completed his education to year 10 at Campbelltown High and then left to enter an apprenticeship in Boilermaking with A.M. Dulhunty, a then-large Steel and Mining fabrication workshop sited in Blaxland Rd. In 1973 Peter worked on site at Wilsons Promontory in Victoria during construction of the Mackerel & Tuna oil rig jackets prior to moving back to Campbelltown to join Production Equipment Ltd (conveyor designer-manufacturer) located on Blaxland road as estimator-design engineer.
In 1985, Peter co-founded with David Fuller, the principal of Nepean Engineering, Nepean Mining Pty Ltd at Picton, NSW. The company after its initial foray in general repairs and maintenance successfully developed its own range of conveyor components & complete systems predominantly for the underground mining & minerals industry. Through Nepean Mining Queensland Pty Ltd Peter expanded his business interstate to Mackay.
In 1992 the company was renamed Nepean Conveyors Pty Ltd following which it expanded off shore. The Nepean Conveyors South Africa was set up in 1995, followed by expansion of business to China and Indonesia in 1996. During 1999, Nepean Meco Conveyors Pty Ltd, was established dedicated to design, manufacture and supply of conveyor structure & idler rollers. In 2004, the electrical and electronics business of M.I.Power was acquired and integrated with the Nepean Group.
During the 2005-2006 year, the Nepean Conveyors Group turnover topped $83m from sales into four countries along with every mining State in Australia.
Peter has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Picton since 1992 where he served as President for the year 2000-2001.
